Curious about Instagram caption generators?
We know that captions are almost as important as gorgeous visuals and awesome Instagram post ideas.
You need to create Instagram captions that connect with your audience. A good caption inspires people to react, engage, and even DM you.
But sometimes creating them can be hard!
That’s when you hope that software that creates a caption for you is the answer.
But should you use an Instagram caption generator?
And do they create captions you would be happy adding to your Instagram account?
Let’s find out.
What’s an Instagram caption generator?
An Instagram caption generator is a simple app that allows you to press a button and create an Instagram caption.
There are two main types:
- Random caption generators.
- Caption makers with categories.
An example of an IG caption generator is the IGfonts.info website.
Here you click the button to generate a random caption.
It also has the option to grab a formatted caption that includes different fonts. So if you want to create an interesting looking caption, this feature could be useful.
Another example is from Captionland.
Again, you hit the big green ‘generate’ button to get a caption idea. Keep pressing it if you don’t like what it comes up with.
The caption generator from Tuck Tools lets you choose a category to start with.
Then you can generate a caption.
There are also some handy emojis at the bottom to grab and add to it. Or, you can discover the most popular Instagram emojis here.

Why would you use one?
Using an Instagram caption generator is simple.
But why would you want to use one?
For me, there are two main reasons I would try one of these to get some captions for my posts.
You want some new ideas
Sometimes you feel a little stuck with your captions.
Everything you post ends up sounding the same.
A caption generator might not create the finished caption, but it can generate some easy ideas. These can be adapted to sound more like you.
You can add your usual formatting and line breaks to make it look nice.
And then you are ready to post.
You’re feeling overwhelmed and want a quick solution
The other reason you might use one is if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed. Coming up with endless captions can seem like a headache.
Sometimes you just need a quick caption to inspire you to create a post!
These generators can help, especially the ones where you can pick a category.
They let you refine the results to get something useable – or at least a basis for it.
What’s the downside of using one?
Just are there are reasons that you might want to use a caption generator, there are also downsides to consider.
Repetitive captions
You could get the same captions as other people.
Without using them for hours and hours, it’s hard to know how often the same caption comes up. But you’ll eventually get the same captions as other IGers.
Granted, you wouldn’t then post it with the same image and hashtags. But it’s worth remembering the possibility is there.
These captions aren’t personalized to you, or what your account is about.
When we talk about the best Instagram captions, we talk about brand voice, or your own personality. These automatically generated options aren’t going to sound like you.
Of course, you can tweak them to make them sound more like your own voice. But if speed is an issue, this might be an extra step you want to avoid.
Useless captions
Honestly, sometimes the results I got when testing the generators were a little useless! They weren’t something I would ever post.
They’re free to use, so you can keep tapping that button.
But there’s no guarantee you’ll get something usable from the results. So again, it might end up just wasting time.
Using caption generators sparingly
These apps can be a great way to get some inspiration, some new ideas.
They can even help come up with simple captions when you’re stuck.
But sometimes they’re a bit random with what they create. They don’t replace the need for you to create content in your brand voice.
They can be another tool in your Instagram arsenal, like using Instagram caption spacing and cool fonts for your Instagram bio and captions.
They’re worth a try – but what’s better by far is learning how to write Instagram captions that are unique and tailored to your followers!
If you try an Instagram caption generator, let us know in a comment how it worked for you!
