Is your Instagram bio link not working?
Wondering how to get links to work in your Instagram bio?
Like a lot of restrictions on IG, it may have to do with an influx of spammers, as well as young users.
In addition to throttling clicks, a link block can even cause your account to be frozen.
Along with blocked Instagram comments, this is happening way too often.
But here’s fair warning, and possible workarounds.
NEW: Jump to missing IG link title.
Which Instagram Links Are Not Allowed?
Getting the “Link not allowed” error on Instagram?
Link not allowed
It looks like your profile contains a link that is not allowed. We restrict certain content and actions to protect our community. Tell us if you think we made a mistake.
OK / Report problem
Instagram has become quite cautious with that one link allowed in your bio. This is due to the amount of spam accounts they see.
- They’ll block websites known to be linked to by spammers in their profiles.
- They won’t allow links to websites with explicit content.
- They’re blocking links that appear on several accounts within a short period.
- Shortened links – such as bitly – are suspect since it’s unclear what you’re linking to.
- Made-up website names may be blocked (don’t risk your account to be funny).
- Domain names using elements or misspellings of Instagram have been blocked.
- And in some cases, it may simply be your WiFi connection to Instagram. Really!
But my site is legit!
Unfortunately, I’m hearing more and more about blocked links from legitimate sites. I suspect the instagram AI is crawling the sites and taking words out of context.
One was a makeup site with a lipstick color named “Nude.” While I can’t say that was the reason, it may well be.
A lot of food blogs are getting blocked by Meta, on both Instagram and Facebook. Perhaps due to words like cut or chop?
If the link is to your own site, jump to the solution for my own website link is blocked by Instagram.
Below are some verified banned website links.
You can’t post links to Snap or Telegram
Instagram has disabled the ability for users to encourage others to follow them on Snap or Telegram.
Previously Instagram users were able to include ‘add me’/’follow me’ links in a website section on their profile page, directly linking out to any other profiles they had on third party social services’ apps. Now attempting to type one of these links to a Snapchat or Telegram profile, within the Instagram app’s website field on a user’s profile, results in the following message…
A spokesman for Instagram confirmed the change to TechCrunch, providing the following statement: “We’ve removed the ability to include ‘add me’ links on Instagram profile pages. This was a rare use-case, and not the way our platform was intended to be used. Other types of links are still allowed.” source
So if this is what you’ve been trying to do, you can stop trying.
Etsy links not allowed on Instagram
A reader was informed by Instagram that etsy.com/shop/ URLs are not allowed. Now she can post photos, but nothing else – no captions, comments, or follows.
Apparently this has been going on for years. The problem now is – she can’t even change the link.
Some Etsy sellers reported that the format shopname.etsy.com worked fine, but others said they had problems with that too.
One person said using their own domain name that redirected to their Etsy shop worked – but no guarantee that will continue.
Beware linking to an Etsy shop in any format. Definitely don’t use etsy.com/shop/shopname.
Fix Instagram Link Not Allowed with NO LINK!
There are several solutions to blocked links, depending on what the link problem is. We’ll look at 3 different problems, with suggestions to solve each.
First up, you don’t even have a link in your bio!
When you get the error message, Instagram may provide the actual link that’s not allowed.
Is it an IP address? This is a string of numbers with a few periods inserted. In this case, you may not even have a link in your bio.
Fortunately, this solution could be as easy as changing your IP address. Just this month, one IGer reported:
I have to turn off my WiFi on my phone and use data for IG. When I am done, I turn the WiFi back on. Evidently there is some link in the wifi that IG doesn’t like.
So try that first.
If that doesn’t work, these solutions are widely shared. I haven’t tried them, but if your IP address is the problem, one of these should fix it.
Solution 1: Restart your WiFi
Instagram is not allowing the IP address that is assigned to you. Get a new IP address by following these steps:
- Turn OFF your WiFi router.
- Wait for at least 3-5 minutes.
- Now Turn ON your WiFi. Connect your device to WiFi.
- This will assign a new IP address to your device.
- Check if the error still persists.
Solution 2: Change Router Configuration
Follow the steps given below to change the router configuration:
- Go to the homepage of your router and log in.
- Select My Network tab.
- Click on Network Connection.
- Select Broadband (Ethernet) under Rule Name.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Renew > Release > Apply.
- Now check if Instagram Link not allowed error still persists.
Solution 3: For Mobile Data Users
If you are getting Instagram Link not Allowed error while using Instagram with your mobile or cellular data, don’t worry.
Put your mobile phone in Airplane mode for 3-5 minutes. After waiting for 3-4 minutes, Turn OFF Flight mode and launch Instagram to check if the issue has been resolved. source
Another possible workaround is to use Instagram on a computer browser in Incognito mode.
If the error has nothing to do with your IP address, read on…
My Website Link Is Blocked by Instagram
Your bio has a link to your own website, and you get a notice that your URL is blocked. You know your site isn’t spammy, and perhaps it’s even been allowed before.
Here are 5 possible solutions:
Solution 1: Facebook debugger
Whether your URL is blocked by Instagram or Facebook, try the Facebook debugger.
This same advice was provided over and over when people were complaining about this issue. I’m hoping it works for you!
That debugger link is pretty handy for a number of things, including getting Facebook to pull up the right image with link posts. Bookmark it, or this post!
Solution 2: URL shortener or service
Some readers suggested that using a link service like linktr.ee allowed them to link to their website.
Linktr.ee provides a landing page where you can place multiple links you’d like your IG followers to check out.
If Instagram discovers people use services like these to defeat their safeguards, they’ll probably disallow them, but for now it’s worth a try.
Solution 3: Meta Business Help live chat
I had no clue this was a thing, and maybe it won’t last, but a reader said this worked for her.
It’s intended for business accounts, and maybe only ones that are connected to a Facebook business page. I’m not sure but thought you’d want to give it a shot.
If you don’t find live chat, one blogger says to just report the issue daily with a screenshot until it’s resolved.
Milly commented:
I just had the same issue with my company’s social media.
HOW TO FIX IT FAST:
Go to the Meta Business Help Center – if you can’t find it just search facebook ads support and there will be a link for it.
When you get there, scroll down to Find answers or contact support and click Get started. Fill all the info they ask and in click on the box to explain your issue further. It will lead you to a facebook chat with a real person and they will help you to solve this issue.
I did all the procedures above and in the day after my link was already allowed. Hope it helps everyone that is also panicking to fix this.
Below is a screenshot of the button to click.
Solution 4: Ads manager
If you run ads, contact your rep. They’ll get you sorted quickly.
If you don’t, and you’re not beyond fibbing, one blogger suggests this:
Get in touch with them through the Facebook ads problem section. Tell them that you’re planning a big ads campaign on Instagram but you are blocked.
They will get back to you fast because they want your money. I do it every time and it works!
Solution 5: Delete the link
If the above methods didn’t work, open your Instagram profile and delete the link.
If you can’t add a link, try this next trick…
IG Error: “You edited a link in your bio”
Here’s a new problem – and a solution offered by a reader. This solution could work for other problems too, and it’s easy to try.
- From your IG profile, tap Edit profile.
- Add your link, then tap the checkmark at the top.
- Now you’re back to the Edit Profile view; DON’T click on the checkmark (“ok” action) on that page! Instead, CLICK ON THE X (“close” or “cancel” action) at the top left corner!
- Voilá! I was back to my bio and my added link was there! Phew!
Big thanks to Luciano for sharing! PLMK in a comment how this works for you.
Instagram Account Blocked Due to Bio Link
Unfortunately, I’ve been hearing from people who can’t even get into their account because of the link in their bio.
At this point, I don’t really know what you can do. Asking support seems to be fruitless.
One account was unblocked after a week and was able to remove their questionable link. Another account disappeared – so I don’t know what happened to it.
First, try to patiently wait it out.
If you end up setting up a new account, I suggest:
- Don’t post a link to Snapchat or Telegram.
- Don’t post a link to an Etsy shop.
- DontMakeUpAPhonyURL.com – one account was blocked for doing this.
- Triple check your URL for typos. One account was blocked for spelling “Instagtam.”
- Run your link through the FB debugger before posting.
- Don’t post affiliate links.
- Be cautious of posting a shortened link (ie, bitly).
- And finally, don’t post other people’s content without permission. Your account may be reported and then blocked.
NOTE: I haven’t had any trouble with bitlys. Just a suggestion if you want to be extra cautious.
Title Not Showing on Instagram Link
Since Instagram started allowing multiple bio links in 2023, the issue of missing titles has arisen.
People are asking, how can I get the link title to show on my IG profile?
Titles added in the IG link feature won’t show when people view your profile. They only show if you have multiple links, and someone clicks “and x more.”
Missing title workaround
If you want to add the context of a title ON your bio, you’ll need to add the words at the bottom of your bio description.
I recommend making it a call to action to get clicks.
This will work if you just have one link, or for the top link if you have more than one. Or it could even be a CTA to click to see all your links.

How do i use the debugger? I tried all your other options and nothing has helped!
Email is invalid and website goes against community standards! Please help!
Louise Myers says
Just enter your URL in the debugger page. It may provide some insights as to the problem.
Re the email, use a different one. I see you do have another.
Shubham says
If your link is blocked and you cant change it ,
Login to insta from desktop and then go to edit profile to change it
Louise Myers says
Great! Thank you.
Sue Urquhart says
Thanks Louise – I just got the link ban message and tried the airplane mode trick and it worked. My website link redirects to my Etsy shop so I deleted it and just put it in as text. I sell direct on IG so it’s not a huge loss, and I can’t risk being banned. What a messed up way to treat their users!
Louise Myers says
Yes, I agree! Glad this helped though.
James says
Thanks for this opportunity. My site is blocked by Instagram in such a way that, i can post the site on Instagram but my followers can not open it. When posted, it looks like a normal writing, not like a link. I need help, what can i do please, this site is very important to me
Louise Myers says
I don’t know how to help other than suggest you check your link for a typo.
Maja says
The tip with an Airplane Mode helped a lot❤️ The error was occuring when I was using a cellular and then it disappeared 🙂
Louise Myers says
Great! So glad to hear it worked.
Josel says
The link in my instagram bio for my website is blocked or removed by IG. It’s really important for me to share my website link in my bio , and it’s pretty much useless now to use instagram, also to start a new ig page and build a new following if this will just happen again. My website has nothing against the community guidelines. When I checked my facebook page, the same thing happened. This really sucks when you’re trying to build something and they flag you down for nothing.
Cat says
Thanks for the info! What happened to me is that it didn’t entirely block me but wasn’t allowing me to comment on any post (giving me the message above about the link and protection of the community!). I read this and tried the airplane mode for a few minutes, that fixed it 🙂 thank you from @GlasgowFoodelicious
Louise Myers says
Great! Thanks for your feedback.
Gaurav Buchchhas says
Hiii,
Its been a month my link isn’t activated. I’ve tried everything and also check my website.
There is no abusive or spammin content on my site.
Please tell me what to do.
Mark says
Hello guys.
Just reading through all your comments. I had the same problem. Here is a temporary solution.
– Sign up to linktr.ee
– Create a new link with a custom title and insert your website link.
– Add a backdrop theme and your logo.
– Once the custom link is made you can add that to your Instagram bio instead.
Users will have to click twice to arrive at your website but its better than nothing.
Hope this helps.
Louise Myers says
This may or may not work. I’ve also had a link tree link disallowed.
Adama says
Hi, I really love your website, thanks so much for the great information! I tried clicking on someone’s LinkTree bio link just now which didn’t work for me unless I used incognito mode. Very strange!
Louise Myers says
Interesting, thanks.
Beth says
The link to my website worked fine for years. I recently created an online store using Squareup and replaced my website link with the new store link. It works for a few hours, then I get page not available message. So I made a Linktree account and now am using that as my bio link. Same thing, I keep getting page not allowed message every few hours after resetting the link. Have contacted both Instagram and Linktree, haven’t heard back.
Julia says
Hi Louise.
I’m having this issue with a client: I made a professional website for a social event planner and designer and she cannot link it in her Instagram bio. I have tried everything: resetting the wifi, I used incognito mode… I’m getting the same error everytime: the link is not allowed.
I’ve tried Facebook debugger and it’s not working, it says the site cannot be checked because it doesn’t follow Facebook rules. I have no idea what it is happening and so I don’t know how to fix it.
I reported the error to Instagram but I don’t get an answer. I’ve talked to the hosting company but they cannot give me an solution either.
What else could I do? Thank you so much.
Louise Myers says
This is an unfortunate problem that many are experiencing. If FB is blocking the site, there’s nothing that can be done until they fix their broken algorithm.
Funmi says
I am having the same problem with my website suddenly banned by Facebook. I have reached out several times and all they say is the url doesnt meet the community standards. Please help
Louise Myers says
I don’t know of any way to help. They need to fix their algorithm.
Veronica Logothetis says
Hi all! This happened to me and I was able to get to the bottom of it with help from a shopify:
As of March 2019, IG has seriously cracked down on “support groups” where you get likes for likes, comments for comments etc. Telegram, IG group chats or any other venue they can track that uses these groups is at risk for being shut down. For everyday people it’s a bit like a temporary ban for liking, following or commenting too fast. But for businesses that depend on sales and website traffic from IG it’s absolutely devastating because they flag your domain so that you can’t put it in your bio, or in comments or messages or stories. This migrated to FB and before you know it you’re flagged on both sides.
Redirect links only work for a few hours at best.
Still trying to get an answer from FB to see if this is in any way reversible. For now I’ve deleted myself from all the support groups.
Renee says
Have yours returned to normal?
Gissel says
Hello-
Had you fixed your issue? I am experiencing the same problem. Please let me know, I any tips will be appreciate it
Thank you
Cristal says
Ran into the same issue and thought it was a problem with Shopify but I see it’s an IG issue. The only thing I can think off that might have set it off is recently joining a Telegram group that gets you likes/comments.
I’ve had to delete my website link and all my products are no longer tagged on IG and I can’t run ads or really function as a business.
Hoping I find a way to fix this!
Louise Myers says
“Comment pods” break IG terms of use as it’s artificial engagement.
As far as Shopify, I think IG needs to rework their banned websites algorithm! It’s messed up.
Veronica Logothetis says
Totally agree. Wish I’d known about comment pods. Do you think they will ever lift the ban on my link?
Louise Myers says
Right now they’re banning a lot of links that shouldn’t be, so we can only hope they fix this issue.
Lazykim says
Thank you so much it worked for me!! I love you lots ??
Louise Myers says
Terrific!
Terri says
Hi – Instagram blocked my wordpress blog yesterday despite the fact it’s happily sitting on my profile for at least a year. There’s nothing contentious in it – it’s about a career change – and I’ve sent a message to Insta but who knows if I will hear anything back. For now I’ve removed it and everything is working – well apart from that of course!
Thanks for the blog – very helpful!
Louise Myers says
They’ve definitely changed something in their algorithm. We can only hope they fix it soon.
Jadie says
After a week of not being able to post captions or hashtags and not finding a single thing that solved the issue, I had to remove my website URL from my profile. It makes no sense why they would block my website, as I’ve had Instagram show the website URL for years and there’s literally zero content on there that would violate the community guidelines. The problem seems to be that Facebook is broken.
Louise Myers says
Yes, this seems to be the new thing, I’m hearing it lot. Hope they resolve it soon.
Karl says
I had a similar issue with my website depicting my art work. I can’t, for the life of me, manage to get it unblocked, saying there’s content against their Community Standards. What surprises me the most is that porn is allowed an Instagram account, you can even post a link to their website, but a link to an art website or a business website gets blocked? Clearly the algorithms and the bots are not accurate enough. It’s beyond ridiculous!
Louise Myers says
Yes, it’s gotten a little ridiculous. Are you saying that account has a link to their website in their bio? Actually, it’s kind of hard to believe they’re even allowed to have an account. But if you’re talking about posting links in comments, I don’t think those are monitored.
Kaily says
So I have read through every single post here including your responses. I am hoping maybe you have an answer for me in this case – My website was linked in my bio for months, it is a real domain. Last week, IG gave me the error message of “link not allowed” and was unable to like or comment on posts, and was unable to post my own content. I removed my website link from my bio and that helped with the first issue. However, when I try to add my link back to my bio, it gets rejected with same error message. I did the debugger on FB, but am getting that same message of “doesn’t meet community standards”. I read through all the community standards and do not see why they would think this. It is a fashion and style blog, with original posts, no ads, and nothing malicious. What do you think about this? Have any ideas? I’m at a loss! <3
Louise Myers says
Hi Kally, it seems like everything’s getting caught in their filter these days. I would suggest removing the “word” genYnial. Wait a few days or a week and try your link again. I think we need to review our sites carefully for things like that, that are getting misread.
Danielle mrad says
I made a website for a client who is a doctor and he can’t add the link in his Instagram bio. I tried the Facebook debugger and it failed saying my site doesn’t meet guidelines.
Louise Myers says
Unfortunately I’m seeing a lot of normal sites getting caught in their filters. So, something about that particular topic or the photos on the site are triggering a false alarm.
A N says
We have just figured out we lost a ton of money (by our own standards) and resources on getting our campaigns out there only to be told off by influencers and friends and family that our website link on IG doesn’t work. What a wasted exercise.
All we are is a legit small enterprise trying to get off the ground. As an alternative we even tried a billy link we again got blocked in a few mins. What do we do, we are an online business and cannot market on face nor on IG. What now? No response from the FB feedback /help or from IG reports. No number s to call either of them or get a service rep to simply look into us and validate what we are trying to say or do.
Louise Myers says
I don’t have an answer regarding your site link, but I did notice that your IG posts are attracting a ton of automated, spammy comments. I suggest you check the hashtags you’re using. Create a few groups of less hashtags. Rotate them to discover which are attracting spam. It’s usually terms with over a million uses.
Adepeju says
Hi A N,
Have you been able to fix the problem? Looks like facebook and IG has too much power. Can people come up with something to solve this issue? this is really a problem.
Does anyone know anybody that’s been able to get past this problem? What was the solution?
Louise Myers says
One person said they put in their instagram URL to fix it.
Lauren Alleva says
So I had a Bitly link for years and all of a sudden I cannot comment on photos nor my caption will show. I removed the link and I still am getting the error message you mentioned above. I have reported, tried everything suggested and still getting it. Any ideas?? Thanks!
Louise Myers says
Hi Lauren, how long has it been since you removed the link? You may still be temporarily “banned” but hopefully it’ll return to normal soon.
I would love to know so we can let others know what to expect!
Angel Denise Mariae says
Hello there. I hope you can help me. I have this same error. I can’t ‘love’ and comment on photos in IG. Also when a post a picture, the caption is being deleted too. I do not have any website, I just link it to my FB account. I do not have a wifi too. I already tried going Airplane mode process but it dint work. I made sure the app is update too. I do not know what to do anymore 🙁
Louise Myers says
If you don’t have a website in your bio, then perhaps you had too much activity too fast. Did you get an error message when this started?
The article for you isn’t this one, it’s: Instagram comments blocked
Negar says
My website has been blocked without reason and I can’t be used on Instagram Bio or posts

Hello,
I’m having the same issue that i cannot add by Shopify link into Instagram bio. Also cannot post my address link through FB either or any posting any brand ads from Shopify link into FB. I dont understand what are their standard rules. What i can seeothers user totally having no problem with Shopify adding their link in Insta and FB. Even Amazon too. We sent report by clicking ‘tell us’, yet this issue aren’t resolve. Lite users like us always having this kind of simple problem which i think it shouldn’t happened. FB is not a small platform or still new for a great social apps. I think you know what i meant.
Louise Myers says
I’m not sure what’s causing the problem for you and not others, but here are 3 guesses:
Do the others have the same subdomain setup in their URL? Or maybe they buy ads? Or they’re US or Europe-based?
Sorry, I know it’s not fair. I would keep reporting and hope it gets resolved.
Jasen says
Hello,
My Bio link in insta to my website suddenly stopped working interrupting my account. So I removed it and I can use insta but I cannot put my website. I followed your debugger and it says my website goes against the FB policy. I’m selling hemp apparel and I see people with cbd websites that link to insta so I can’t figure out why mine isn’t working. Also I cannot do any paid sponsored adds and it’s really frustrating because I’m making eco products for the earth. Is there someone that can help me change my website to make is acceptable for FB and insta ?
Thank you
Jasen
Louise Myers says
Jasen, I’m sorry to hear this. I really don’t have any further insights though. I hope you can get it sorted.
Elise Matthes says
Hi Louise!
I’m having the same exact problem. I don’t know why instagram blocked the link to my personal blog, but I don’t want to have to create a new page. I tried to use the facebook debugger, but it says my site doesn’t meet “the community guidelines”. I have no idea what to do! Any help you could give me would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you so much.
Louise Myers says
It’s likely they don’t allow “deep links” or subdomains, as you posted here. I don’t either. If you move your site to a real domain name, this may fix the problem.
Andrew says
I used to like Linktree, but it is so limited! Then I found ContactInBio and so glad about it, free analytics of page visitors and link clicks, so many options for adding content as text, social media links, music services links, contact form and so much more and all for free 🙂
Minas says
I’m In trouble, The FB and Instagram Blocked me everything to use. I can’t but the link in my Bio, I can’t write a post in my instagram photo share, my page store in FB was desapeare, The product doesn’t share from my store to FB page store anymore, everything was stoped and I’m try to know whay but the FB security doesn’t response ever, and I have a work to do with my website through FB and Instagram, Why I just had this stupid blocked ? I’m really so mad, I have 5 days waiting them response my massage but nothing happened .
I just ask something:
I think the problem is that I’m share my link Several times in one day. everyday I did that, and this share in my page. By instagram share, I post the product in instagram and share it automaticlly to my page. is that reason for a FB to blocked me?
Louise Myers says
Sure, sharing your link several times a day could get you blocked. Probably numerous reasons you could be blocked.
Minas says
Thank you alot, I Understand now, Is the bock will removed on me?Or I will never work again? I think frequently I’m so hasty 🙁
Louise Myers says
I have no idea what will happen. Hope it works out for you.
Andrew says
Another way could be using service as ContactInBio.com, it has unique custom url as subdomain, been using it for a while now since moved from Linktree to ContactInBio
Louise Myers says
Good to know!
Kate Vocke says
Do you know anything about @profile mentions links? I added @profile link to my business IG profile (on my personal) and accidentally hit “unlink” from the business one now I can’t get the @link back on my personal – it’s just plain text (not in the website field – just in the bio) 🙁
Louise Myers says
Oh, I don’t know if you can relink then. IG thinks the biz acct blocked the other from linking to it.
Lucas says
Guys I just solved it!!
I had my website link on my profile but then I stopped paying for my website and it was taken down. So now IDK why but the link for my website appears as suspicious and I think this is why IG blocked my account to like and comment. I removed the link from my profile but it didn’t worked, I message IG support with no answer ever….
I just tried smtg and it worked. Go to your profile, select EDIT PROFILE and on the WEBSITE space just put http://www.instagram.com/“yourprofileusername”
I just did it and it’s back to normal.
Hope it works for you as well!
Good luck

Thanks Lucas

Thank you Lucas, it worked for us also!

Hi!
Thanks for this interesting post. I’m having also some troubles with blocked links: Instagram shows my url is blocked and I’ve send feedback to IG and Insta already a few times.
Unfortuanately this doesn’t work.. in the past my url was hacked but I’ve solved it but my link is still blocked.. tried to use the Facebook debugger but it doesn’t crawl because it “doesn’t meet the community standards”.. not sure what to do now.. anyone who can help?
anonymous says
My profile just got locked for a link that Instagram didn’t approve. I tried logging out on my mobile app (it wouldn’t let me edit my profile on there or link) and then logging into my Instagram on my laptop and changing the link on there. It seems to have worked and done the trick. My link is changed and profile seems to be back to normal.
Louise Myers says
Thanks for the tip. Seems like a good idea.
Your comment, name, and URL have been edited because I don’t allow keywords instead of names, or self-promotion in comments.
Wendy says
Hi Louise, I’m having the same problem as some others here.
My site was hacked a while ago, a hacker put a bad bit of code on it that has since been removed – but now I can’t post the link to either Facebook or Instagram. The site has been throroughly checked by an IT consultant. Still, when I try to use the Debugger I only get the error message: ”We can’t review this website because the content doesn’t meet our Community Standards. If you think this is a mistake, please let us know.” Reporting it is only treated as general feeback by Facebook, they do not investigate individual cases. So frustrating that there seems to be NO way to contact these people! I can’t seem to have the site reviewed again now it’s clean! Do you have any other tips? Thanks! Wendy
Louise Myers says
I hadn’t heard of this hacker thing. If you have an ad budget, you can probably get this fixed. As a free service, FB provides minimal support.
Tejas Jhaveri says
Im facing the same issue, but the Facebook Sharing Debugger doesn’t work for my website. It says “We can’t review this website because the content doesn’t meet our Community Standards. If you think this is a mistake, please let us know.”
How do I solve this issue?
Im facing the same issue on Instagram as well.
A solution to this issue would be wonderful
Louise Myers says
I have no ideas beyond using the “let us know” feature. Better check your site and look for anything that might be a problem / look spammy. Too many ads is one issue.
sarah says
I’m typing my website link in the debug tab but this is whats popping up:

Louise Myers says
Yeah, they’ve gotten pretty bad at actually responding.

Thanks! I’ve found they don’t respond any more, so I hope it works. It’s certainly worth a try!
Chase says
My profile just got locked for a link that Instagram didn’t approve. I tried logging out on my mobile app (it wouldn’t let me edit my profile on there or link) and then logging into my Instagram on my laptop and changing the link on there. It seems to have worked and done the trick. My link is changed and profile seems to be back to normal. Hope this helps.
Louise Myers says
Great! Thanks for sharing what worked.

I have a problem that i can’t like or comment at any post and also cannot followback other user. Im always getting “Link not allowed” everytime i like or comment. It shows 14.192.214.206 please solve this. Thank you.
Louise Myers says
I’m sorry, but there’s no way I can resolve this for you. However it sounds like you may be trying to leave a link in a comment – that is clearly spam, so don’t!
If you haven’t yet, you should check out the post about blocked comments. Good info in the comments too.
And, you can try using “report a problem” in your account settings.
Gianluca says
Is it possible about website’s link was affected by malware recently?
Yeah, I think. One of mine customers’ website was, and Instagram doesn’t allow to add it to its profile.
Now the website is clean and I sent a report to Instagram service and waiting (hoping) for their…something 🙂
I will update you about.
Louise Myers says
Thanks Gianluca, I’d love to hear about that! Best of luck.
Gabe says
I tryed to put my link to saraha in my bio on Instagram as all my friends are doing and non of them have problems, however, for me it says “this website is blocked”. Any way you can help?
Louise Myers says
Sorry, I don’t know why this happens randomly. Go into your account settings and use the “report a problem” feature.
Seonaid says
Hi Louise
I’m not expecting any help here, but just wanting to provide some feedback on this issue (plague!)
I don’t have a link in my bio, nor have I ever had one, but I frequently get blocked with this message.
The only thing I can do is report it to IG’s faceless help team and wait until someone fixes it.
It’s becoming so annoying that I’m seriously considering getting rid of IG (which I’ve had for many years). I certainly wouldn’t consider using it for business purposes while this arbitrary rubbish is going on.
Louise Myers says
I’m so sorry to hear that. If I had any help to offer, I would! It does seem pretty arbitrary and completely annoying.
Mike says
I’ve just started having this exact problem. I have no link and I’ve never had a link on my IG profile.
melo says
It happened to me. Instead of wasting my energy with a bunch of tech stuff that ends up not working, I am editing my bio to include my domain name. The box for website will be empty. I don’t need a live link, people can copy and paste in a new browser tab if they are really interested in checking my site. I’m tired of the tech crap everywhere. They keep us busy with things that didn’t have to even be a concern so I am gonna find ways to not let it distract me, I’m gonna work around it instead of trying to fix it.
Louise Myers says
Sorry you’re having this problem. While I wouldn’t want you to waste time, the chance of someone copy and pasting your link are extremely remote (I can’t even copy on IG on my iPhone). So maybe you just make it your platform for connecting. If ou’re trying to drive sales, get a link service like LinkTree or lnk.bio.
Kurdi says
Hi Louise Myers,
I wish a happy new year and all success,
I am having the same problem, I have an Instagram account, and I did set my website link in the bio profile, the problem is when I click on the link it doesn’t take me to my website.
I tried almost everything and I almost got crazy seeing others accounts work perfectly, until I found your post here. I tried the FB developer debbug tool in the link you gave. and I found these warnings about my website I have to fix :
Inferred Property
The ‘og:url’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Share App ID Missing
The ‘fb:app_id’ property should be explicitly provided, Specify the app ID so that stories shared to Facebook will be properly attributed to the app. Alternatively, app_id can be set in url when open the share dialog.
Inferred Property
The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
I totally don’t understand what should I do, if you can help me please.
Best Regards
Louise Myers says
You would have to ask a techie. Mo idea here!
Cathy says
I can’t even check on the facebook debugger?! Any ideas? My website is a children’s toy shop! It says they can’t review this websit because the content doesn’t meet heir community guidelines!
Louise Myers says
I was able to use the debugger with your URL.
Jessica Boltze says
I am having the same issue! My site is for self development. I do not post anything malicious. The debugger hasn’t provided anything that needs to be fixed. Please help!
Louise Myers says
I would recommend switching to https ASAP. This is required to be ranked by Google anyway, and may help with your IG problem too.
Peter Franco says
Hi im having a similar problem for a client, though i feel its because of the domain extension. does anyone know the below url is an issue
dressthe.space
if i use any .com one its works fine, but the .space one take me to a macilious page
Louise Myers says
It could be that IG doesn’t “recognize” some of the new extensions yet. I’ll update if I find anything.
nikhil says

Error:
Link not allowed
Louise Myers says
Sorry, everything I know is in this and my other article. I have no way to help further.
Corey says
This just happened to me on my business instagram account. I have a link in my bio to my etsy shop. I cant even delete it from my bio due to restricted access. This is a real inconvenience to my business! I tried reporting it but not sure if it worked. And when I try to report an official complaint it wasnt working.. 504 error. Ugh! Any advice on how to contact IG would be great. I guess I’ll be patient until then.
Louise Myers says
I’m afraid when Instagram started having all sorts of problems, they removed any way to contact them.
Matt says
Found your site while looking up links on Instagram. Have you heard about the LinkButter app? You can jump right to a link from the description by just hitting Copy Share URL on the Instagram post. Full disclosure – I made the app, but it could help address the issues you are posting about. Learn more about it at linkbutter.com/
Louise Myers says
Hmm, I’m not clear on how this app is better than just pasting the link in my browser?
Mat says
Great question! The Copy Share Url link takes you to the Instagram website, where as LinkButter will take you directly to the link in the Instagram’s post description – LinkButter is smart enough to know there is a link to a product page, bio, or anywhere you can make a link “link” to in the description. Often times, those links are very long and hard to remember (or both!).
Louise Myers says
OK, that IS clever! But as marketers, we have to rely on our audience being motivated enough to install a separate app.
DaMaN says
Keep seeing this. If a link is blocked how do you debug if its not added?
Louise Myers says
You just type the link into the box at that URL. It debugs the web page – or tells you what needs to be fixed. I’ve used it for other reasons re Facebook, and it works. I can’t say for IG, as I’ve never had a blocked link, but it’s worth a try.
Cara Cozy says
How do you know what to fix? I tried de-bugging my blog and it said it didn’t meet “community guidelines”. I read through the guidelines and didn’t see anything that pertained to my blog (I’m a makeup artist and beauty blogger). I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. 🙁
Louise Myers says
Sorry, I don’t know. I took a quick look at your blog and saw a makeup color named “nude dude.” Who knows what sets off their alarms…
Agnieszka says
I have the same issue now. I have just a three posts on my blog about beauty. So I really do not now what to do now.
Neil R says
I tried turning off my WiFi and used my data, restarted my phone and it works even if I turn my WiFi back on. Thanks for the tip!
Louise Myers says
Glad it worked!
Sevan says
Instagram is not allowing me to put my link in my bio or even send it in a message. The site is a self-initiative website that raises college student’s awareness on minimalism. How does that break the community guidelines? Plus the same thing happened with me on my Facebook page. I am starting to suspect that it’s because of the domain .de, but I live in Germany so how does that seem to be a problem. Would appreciate if someone has answers to my questions.
All the best,
Sevan
Louise Myers says
Not sure but an awful lot of innocent websites are getting blocked these days. I can’t say this would help but a good idea anyway for Google: switch to https.
Nancy Trunzo says
I’m having the same issue. I’m a personal trainer and health coach. There is literally nothing offensive on my website.
Yet it’s blocked on both Instagram and Facebook.
I’m at a loss.
Louise Myers says
It’s getting to be a big problem! Hope IG fixes it or I find an answer to share.
Rowena Dennis says
Same with our website – and FB never responds!
Louise Myers says
Nope, they sure do not. Hopefully they take our complaints into consideration though.
Marc says
I had the issue with my business page since yesterday…
Alexandra says
Same problem here – my in-home art booking platform is blocked. Would love to hear how to get this fixed!
Vaibhav Kohli says
I’m also having the same issue, I don’t know why! Its shopping website and it does not harm any community guidelines still its banned!
Does Facebook really read our feedback??
Or its a waste of time in writing them???
Please let me know.
Louise Myers says
Feedback goes to an AI bot. I can’t say whether it’s worth writing in… up to you.
Marissa Vasquez says
Any luck to your issue? I am finding the same issue with my fashion, travel and lifestyle blog. I’m so frustrated.
Pooj says
I have the same issue more than 20 emails to fb and Instagram and no response! This is so frustrating ! What’s the point of social media if you can’t be social anymore ?
DEVON says
EXACTLY THIS IS SO ANNOYING !!!
Marilee says
Gosh, this is incredibly frustrating! I’m the President of a non-profit organization; Facebook and Instagram are our biggest mode of traffic to our site. We just launched a huge back to school campaign, allowing our followers to nominate deserving students of school supplies, and now our webpage is blocked! What the heck?!?
I’ve tried the debugging thing, didn’t work; Ive tried restarting wifi, didn’t work. I’m totally at a loss. And frankly, the community will ultimately suffer a loss if our social media outlets won’t allow our supporters to go directly to our webpage to nominate students. UGH!
Louise Myers says
Sorry to hear. Someone suggested putting your Instagram URL in there… sounds like it fixed it for him. Assuming he meant he could go back then and put his website. Worth a try?
Lorena says
Hi! This is what I did and WORKED!!
Removed the link… put the ph on airplane mode, refreshed Instagram (on airplane mode), turn WiFi back on and entered the link without www.
It’s working!
Louise Myers says
Fantastic to hear it worked for you 🙂
Lashanna says
I’m still so confused… it’s not working for me … it’s my website that they are blocking
Louise Myers says
It’s the website link in your bio, correct? Which would also apply if you have the ability to add links in Instagram Stories.
These tips may not work for everyone, unfortunately. IG won’t tell us why they block links. These are just suggestions that have worked for others.
Sophia says
I didn’t go to airplane mode… but! I did remove https and www. and my links works now! Thanks!
Daniel says
I just removed my companies website link from our bio and everything went back to normal.
Louise Myers says
That’s always a good option! Thanks for letting us know.
IRPM says
Not working for us…. really frustrating
