Are you a Facebook Page owner?
A Facebook Page for business is a great place to let the world know about your website, or your products and services.
However, it can be a bit complicated.
Here you’ll learn everything you need to know as a Facebook Page owner.
But first, you can see who owns a Facebook Page!
What is a Facebook Page Owner?
A page owner is the business or organization that owns the Page.
This could be a blogger, influencer, small business owner, or even a mega corporation.
Anyone can start a Facebook Page. That includes clubs, societies, charities, and more.

How to Find Out Who Owns a Facebook Page
Finding the owner of a Facebook Page can provide valuable insights.
Perhaps you want to connect with someone for networking purposes, verify the credibility of a Page, or simply satisfy your curiosity.
This can help you make informed decisions about whether to collaborate with the business, or make a purchase.
Let’s learn how to see who owns a Facebook Page.
1 | Try the Page’s “About” section
The first place to look for the owner of a Facebook Page is the “About” section.
Visit the FB Page in question and look for the “About” tab. You should see it under the cover photo.
Click on it, and you may find valuable information that leads you closer to uncovering the owner’s identity.
However, not all Page owners fill out the “About” section extensively.
Don’t lose hope! There are additional ways to gather more clues.
2 | Access the “Page Transparency” feature
Another useful tool within Facebook is the “Page Transparency” feature.
This allows you to view a number of details about the Page:
- Page ID number
- Date the Page was created
- Admins of the Page
- Ads a Page is running
- Page’s history and changes over time.
To access the “Page Transparency” feature, visit the Facebook Page you’re interested in and look for the “Details” section.
Click on “See [page name] About Info” to reveal additional information about the Page.
This feature can provide valuable clues about the owner’s identity and help you piece together the puzzle.
3 | Investigate the Page’s website or contact information
If the previous methods haven’t yielded significant results, it’s time to take your investigation outside of Facebook’s platform.
Many Facebook Pages have associated websites or external contact information listed in their “About” section or details. It’s worth visiting these websites or reaching out through the provided contact details to gather more information about the page owner.
On their website, you may find an “About Us” section or a team page that reveals the people behind the Facebook Page.
Additionally, contacting the owner directly can provide you with the answers you seek.
Be courteous and professional in your approach, explaining why you’re interested in connecting or learning more about their Page.
4 | Engage with the FB Page’s audience
Sometimes, the best way to learn more about a Facebook Page is by engaging with the page’s audience.
By interacting with the Page’s posts, comments, and discussions, you may find individuals who have previously connected with the owner, or have relevant information about their identity.
Engaging with the audience can help you establish connections and gather insights that lead you closer to discovering the owner’s identity.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or start conversations that are relevant to the Page’s content. Be respectful and genuine in your interactions to encourage others to share their knowledge or experiences.
You may stumble upon valuable clues, or even receive direct contact from the page owner themselves.
5 | Hire a pro to uncover the owner’s identity
If you’re still unable to find the owner of a Facebook page, you have the option to hire a professional.
There are individuals and agencies specializing in online investigations who can aid you in your quest. These pros have access to advanced tools, databases, and techniques that can help uncover the owner’s identity, even if they’ve taken measures to remain anonymous.
When hiring a professional, ensure that they are reputable and experienced in their field. Ask for references or testimonials from previous clients and clearly communicate your objectives and budget.
While this method may require financial investment, it can be worth it if you’re determined to discover the owner’s identity.
How to Get a Facebook Page Confirmed
There’s another level of Facebook Page – a Confirmed Page.
With this, you’ve completed Facebook’s business verification process. You’ve also claimed the Page through the Business Manager feature.
Most of the time, you won’t need this. It is aimed at Pages running ads on topics such as politics.
But if you do need it, you can access it through Page Settings in the Business Manager.
Getting verified is pretty simple:
- Add your business details (this will be publicly viewable).
- Select your business – if yours doesn’t show, you may need to upload documents to show you are an official business.
- Confirm your business details with a phone number you have access to.
- Get the verification code sent by text, phone call, or email.
- Use the verification code to get Confirmed.
This is different from the blue verified page. That’s aimed at people like celebrities and sports stars to confirm the Page really is theirs.
How to Use Your Facebook Page 2024
The New Pages Experience works a little differently than Classic Pages. And so far, it’s a real pain.
The key part is switching from your Page to your personal profile to do things such as inviting your Facebook friends to follow you.
But how do you switch to your profile? Let’s take a quick look.
Before you start, be sure that you have a Facebook personal account that is associated with the new Page.
To switch from Page to profile on desktop:
- Click your Page avatar at top right.
- Click your profile picture, or See all profiles if you don’t see it there.
To switch from personal profile to Page on desktop:
- In the same manner, click your profile picture at top right.
- Click your Page avatar, or See all profiles if you need to access a different Page you manage.
OR
- When you visit your Page, there’s a big blue button on the side menu that says Switch.
- Click this and you will start using Facebook as your business Page.
To switch from your profile to Page on mobile:
- Open your Facebook app.
- Tap on your profile picture in the bottom right.
- Select the Pages option.
- Under the Page you want, tap on Switch now.
- This will switch into and open your Page.
You can now post to your Page, see more menu options, and access Facebook Analytics information.
Can You Make Your Facebook Profile into a Page?
If you’re using a personal profile for your business, you might want to change it into a Page.
Pages give you more tools and let you reach more people. Plus, it’s against the Facebook Terms to use your profile to represent an entity other than yourself. You could permanently lose access to your account if you use a personal profile for business.
Unfortunately, in 2021 Facebook deprecated the one-click solution that would turn your profile into a Page, and your friends into followers.
Here’s what to do now:
1 | Once you’re logged into your Facebook profile, click create a Page.
2 | Enter some basic information for your Page: name, category, and description.
3 | When it looks good, click the Create Page button.
4 | Add a post announcing your new Page and the benefits of following it (Great info, discounts, etc, you will share).
5 | Invite your Facebook profile friends to like and follow your new Page.
6 | Post on your personal profile to notify your friends to engage with the new Page going forward. Be sure to include a link to the new Page.
7 | Flesh out your new Page soon with an engaging profile picture and cover photo.
8 | Check out the best time to post to Facebook and how often to post to social media.
9 | Keep the momentum going by creating Facebook content fans love.
Facebook Page Owner vs Admin: Page Access
With the New Page experience, page roles are simplified.
Go into Settings, then into New Pages experience and select the Page access option.
Here you’ll be able to see people with access to your page. This seems to be the same as the old Admin setting.
You can add someone new here by selecting Add New and typing in their name. You can also assign Community Managers.
Plus there’s the option to confirm the business account access for your page.
This is controlled through the Meta Business Suite.
For Classic Pages: If you still have Classic, as a Facebook Page owner, you are also an admin. But someone who doesn’t own the Page can also be made into an admin.
There are actually six roles on a Facebook Page with different automatic permissions:
- Admin
- Editor
- Moderator
- Advertiser
- Analyst
- Jobs manager
Only the admin has full access to every feature of the page.
Plus, the admins are the people who can manage page roles and settings.
In other words, they are the ones who can change the Page owner. Or they can change the role given to someone on the Page.
It can be a good idea to have another admin in your Page. But make sure it is someone you trust as they can potentially remove you as admin of your own Page!
How to Add a Page Owner on Facebook
With the New Page experience, there doesn’t currently seem to be a way to add a Page owner.
Same applies to transferring and removing yourself from the page.
Here’s the Classic experience:
When you create a Page, you are automatically the owner – unless you create it through your business.
So, you don’t need to add yourself as the owner. It’s done automatically for you.
But if you want to add someone else as an admin, you can do this too.
To add an admin, you need to be on a desktop, not the mobile app.
Go to the Page and click the ‘Page settings’ option right at the bottom of the side menu.
This opens up another set of options and you want to select ‘Page roles.’
Here you can see existing Page roles including the admins. You can also see who owns the Page.
You can assign a new Page role right here. Add the person’s name or email address and choose what role they will have.
You’ll need to add your password to confirm the changes.
Remember, admin is the top level. They can do everything a Page owner can do.
To add someone else as the Page owner, you need to follow the process below.
How to Change or Transfer the Page Owner on Facebook
Again, the New Page experience doesn’t currently seem to allow transferring and removing yourself from the page.
The Classic experience:
So, you have given the Page to your friend who is buying your business. Now you need to transfer ownership of the Page to them.
Then you want to change or transfer the page owner.
To do this, first, add the person as an admin following the process above.
Once they have accepted the role as admin, go back to the Page and scroll down to Page Roles.
You and the new admin should now show.
But this isn’t all you need to know on how to remove a Facebook Page owner to make the transfer. The new admin still needs to be made the Page owner.
Business manager settings
You also need to add your friend into the Business Manager area for the Page.
Don’t have a Business Manager account? Go here to set it up. Look for the bright blue button in the upper right corner (though FB might move it by the time you read this 😉 ) and click “Create Account.”
Your friend / new admin needs to go to their Business Manager account and into Business settings.
Go to Accounts and click Pages then +Add.
Add the Page name or URL and toggle the permissions as an admin. Then request access.
You can then accept this, and the person will see the Page on their Business Manager.
If you need more help with the Facebook Business Manager, you can find it here.
Removing yourself as Page owner
The final step is to remove yourself as a Page owner. You need to do this both in the Page and in the Business Manager.
On the Page settings, go to Existing Page Roles and edit yourself.
There’s an option to ‘Remove.’ Select this.
This removes you from the Page.
Next head to Business Manager to Accounts.
Go to Pages and select the Page you want to remove then click ‘Remove.’
This leaves your friend as the admin. They can then go into the Business Manager and add themselves as the Page owner.
How to Claim Ownership of a Facebook Page
Claiming Facebook Page ownership has changed with Meta Business Suite.
- Open Meta Business Suite at business.facebook.com.
- Select the Facebook business account you want to claim ownership with.
- Click Settings on the left and choose Business Assets.
- Click the Pages tab at the top and then the blue Add Assets button at top right.
- Select Facebook Page.
- Select Claim an Existing Facebook Page, then type in the name or URL.
Note that someone with control of the Page will have to approve your request.
Here’s a short video:
Facebook is always changing things around, so let me know in a comment if this no longer works.
Can You Claim an Unmanaged Page?
If there’s a Page that has your business info on it, but it isn’t yours, you may be able to claim it.
That’s assuming there’s no owner.
If a Page is unmanaged, you’ll see Unofficial Page below the cover photo. You can either request to claim the Page and be an admin. Or you can request to merge it with your existing one.
Click the Is this your business below the cover photo and follow the instructions.
You will need to verify your relationship with the business. This might be with things like a phone number or documents.
If Facebook is happy this is correct, you’ll be the owner of the unmanaged Page.
If you don’t see “Is this your business,” try the instructions above.
Can I Unpublish my Page?
Note about the next two sections: So far, we haven’t found any way to delete or unpublish a Page in the New Pages experience. The info below applies if you still have the Classic Experience.
Sometimes you realize you don’t need your Page and want to unpublish it.
This hides it from public view, but you can publish it again in the future.
To do this, go to your Page Settings.
From General, click Page Visibility, then select ‘Page unpublished.’
Save the changes and tell Facebook why you are doing this.
Click Next, then Unpublish, and it is complete.
How to Delete a Facebook Page Completely
Finally, maybe you have decided enough is enough. You don’t want a Page any longer. You won’t be back.
To delete the Page, go to Page Settings, then General, and click ‘Remove Page.’
Click Delete [Page Name], delete page, and OK.
The Page won’t be permanently deleted for 14 days in case you change your mind. But after 14 days, it’s gone for good.
Being a Facebook Page Owner
There are many roles and responsibilities as a Facebook Page owner:
→ Making an eye-catching Facebook Page cover photo.
→ Creating Facebook content fans love.
→ Keeping up with current Facebook image dimensions.
→ Checking and learning from Facebook Insights.
And so many more!
Being a Facebook Page owner is a key part of marketing your business on social media.
But times can change, and so can circumstances.
That’s why Facebook gives you a range of options to add admins, remove them, or even delete yourself from the Page entirely.
That way, you are in control of what happens as a Facebook Page owner.

Hi
Seven years ago, I started work for a charity which needed a Facebook page, so I created a new Facebook account for myself, using my work email, and then set up a page for the charity, which I have managed ever since.
Now I am leaving the charity. I need to know how to transfer the page ownership so I can take down the Facebook account I set up in my name, without affecting the charity page. I did register as a Business Owner, but I still can’t see how to transfer the page to someone else in our charity. When I click on page ownership it shows the charity name with me as Business Admin. If I click through to Business Settings, it won’t let me add another person as it says we are restricted from advertising because I haven’t confirmed my identity!
It’s all getting very confusing. How do I resolve this simply please?
Louise Myers says
I’m sorry to say that FB has made this so convoluted that there are no easy answers sometimes.
If you haven’t added them as a page admin yet, do that first. If you still can’t add them as owner, then you probably have to go thru the identity confirmation as they asked.

Hi Louise,
Brilliant article, very helpful, I’m just hoping you can help with something specific.. Facebook restricted my personal and business accounts from advertising. And working through your process trying to remove myself, I’ve noticed it now says permanently restricted! When I tried to remove the page from my business account it says “you can’t remove pages from a business account that’s restricted from advertising”!! I have set my colleague up as an admin on the business page and I’m prepared to delete my Facebook personal account and business manager account, but I’m worried that the page is owned by the business account we don’t want to lose it as we have 23k followers 😭. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

Wish I had a solution but I don’t. Hope you straighten it out.

Super helpful post. I’m pretty clear but just want to clarify one thing…
My friend and I had a business and created a page on FB. She is leaving and now I need full ownership.
She initially created the business page but we are both listed as “Admin” on Page Roles and we were both listed as “Business Admin” under page ownership. All our admin icons have the blue suitcase… not sure if you need to know that.
In gaining full ownership – Are you saying that in page roles – we remove her as admin and then we also have to go to business manager accounts and remove her? If so, it’s this part with business manager that I am not so clear about as some people online say that once she is removed from admin in page role that’s it.
If not..
In Business Settings (within Business manager) there is tab called “People” – Once her name is highlighted – do you literally just click remove there? Is that the extra step you’re mentioning above? And then does that just leave me as the sole full owner?
Thanks so much
Louise Myers says
I appreciate your wanting the exact details. I would too. Unfortunately it’s Facebook and they change things all the time. Even if you hear something directly from them, it’s likely to be wrong or outdated (sadly, I see this often).
That said, if you removed her as a Page Admin and he’s still showing as a Business Manager – I would remove her there. She may need to go in and do this from her own account.

Hello. This is such a helpful article. And it somehow taught me where the issue at in my problem.
I accidentally added my FB Page to an unknown Business Manager. My FB has no Business Manager so there is technically no owner.
I regret it and now I want to bring back the ownership to my own Business Manager without them approving it because obviously they will not approve it.
Questions:
1. Can they remove me as the main admin when my email is there and my phone number?
2. How can I remove the ownership from them and transfer it to me.
Your answer will be of great help. Thank you you so much!
Louise Myers says
“there is technically no owner” I really don’t know what you mean by this. But if you’re neither the owner nor the Business Manager, there’s nothing I know of that you can do. If they kick you out then report to Facebook that your page was hacked.
Ymunoz says
I created a page to share crafts and snacks with families I work with for my job. I added 2 admin so we can all share. I always get emails saying “you are getting this because you are the page owner”, then out of nowhere it stopped and I go to check what wrong and it shows that someone tried to remove me asking if I accept… then the page seem to have been hacked not allowing me to do anything but I was able to get into it after a few week now I’m not even allowed on my business page I created. is there a way I can get back on it? if I deactivate my Facebook page would it shut down my business page? how can I get it back to remove those who I added (if possible)
Thank you
Louise Myers says
You need to report to Facebook that your page has been hacked. They will investigate and help get it back.
Chris Hayes says
Does Facebook still allow claiming of unmanaged pages? There’s a clear unmanaged page for my senior center (no posts, no way to message admin, and the header seems auto-generated as it’s about a totally different town). Yet this page is confused for the official page. But there’s no ‘Is this your business’ link and no clear way to claim and merge the pages.
Louise Myers says
I don’t know of a way to claim a Facebook page without that link.
imtiaz says
Hi Louise,
I was approached over Whatsapp by a guy who offered to buy my page. When I declined, he offered me shared revenue for advertisements and asked me to join his FB business account and give him admin rights. I declined again and informed him that I can just offer him relevant privileges and nothing more. The guy tried to convince me for many days and finally when he realised that I am not going to budge, he has recently started trying to blackmail me by saying that he will cause mass reporting against my page and have my page discontinued.
Today he has started sharing information about my family and is subtly threatening my family. How can I report such blackmail with evidence from Whatsapp chat logs? I do not see any option any where for safeguarding page owners who are being harassed by such scammers.
Secondly, I saw the name of an unknown Business and ID# as owner of my page in Page Roles section (I am the admin of my page). I do not know who is the owner of this business and how he managed to name himself as owner of my page.
I did create my own business manager and tried to add my page as an asset but it says that a request has been sent to the business owner to approve.
I am unable to comprehend how some unknown entity can assume business ownership of my Page and I have to struggle to get it back.
Look forward to any guidelines and support you can provide please.
Louise Myers says
I’m sorry this is happening to you. I know nothing about Whatsapp and how to report someone there. As far as FB, you can try reporting it but that may be a slow process. If your page is valuable to your business, you might consider legal action.
imtiaz says
Thanks,
My page is a community and strictly non profit initiative that we have nurtured during the past 14 years. I have learnt that these scammers have hijacked many pages by approaching and luring their targets. Plus, we are not based in US and hence have no official registration or anything. The sad reality is that if FB does not come up with initiatives to support page owners like us, people would be discouraged to create pages and existing pages would lose heavily by getting scammed through ADs posted by these scammers on hijacked pages.
Eventually, FB will suffer heavily as I feel there may be some nexus between these scammers and FB support employees outside of US.
I do not see any relevant support options from FB for providing direct support to page owners who have been victimised by scammers.
And this is what is making them so bold.
I have unpublished my page for the time being and I have decided to delete it rather than let some scammer scam people who have liked my page and benefited from my content.
Hope justice and fairness will prevail.
Louise Myers says
There seem to be a lot more page ownership problems going on than I could have imagined! I agree that FB needs a better system for pages.
This is probably not the case, but since you mentioned “community” I thought I should specify this. There is a type of FB page called “community page.” This is different from a business page as it doesn’t have an owner – it’s owned by the community.
Best of luck to you.

Hi, great post. Informative yet easy to read. It just misses what I need though!
I am a business page admin for the company I work for but I am not for their Business Manager.
As far as I can tell, I’m not able to see who does have access to that nor am I able to request it?
I need access in order to run ads.
I fear a previous employee set it up and only handed over login details to the page when they left.
Help please!
Louise Myers says
Unfortunately I don’t know if or how you can find the person who is Business Manager.

I created a page for my business and wasnt really thinking when i switched myself as advertizer. Now im not able to create a post. Is there anyway that i cam become admin again if im the only one that is on the page? Please i need yoir assistance
Louise Myers says
Surely you *are* an admin if you’re the only one on the page.
Jo says
But its not allowing me to create a post. The only thing im able to do is boost an old post.
Louise Myers says
Sorry I don’t know how to resolve this. It seems very strange. So, you changed a setting that made you an advertiser?
It just seems impossible that you have a page with no admin.
Amy says
When I change over the Page creator, does the password automatically change to their account password?
Does a Page even have to have a creator? There’s several admins (it’s a church fb page). I just don’t want to be the admin any more. I’m afraid if I’m removed nobody will have access to change anything because of the password.
Louise Myers says
A Facebook Page must have an owner. Just change one of the other admins to the owner as described.

Hello,
Thank you for your article, however I have a different situation. I have a page and I am an admin, but also I have an IG business account that was link to that page (that I tried to run ads) unfortunately it automatically owned my FB page. But I have requested deletion of this IG account and made a new one. Now I cannot link the new Ig account business to my page because it says “the facebook page you tried to add is already owned by another business.” i don’t know how to remove it in my business manager. Please help me
Louise Myers says
Seems the IG account will no longer be the owner once it’s deleted. Could take 2 weeks.

Please help. Our local public tennis center is having an issue with the previous tennis pro who created the first Facebook page for our club. The name of her page is the name the city decided on when the club was built and how it is referenced in all media, etc. She no longer works at the center (for 5 years now) and has refused on more than one occasion to delete the page. The new tennis professional who is managing the club had to use a different name on the current FB page. The original name is active as is the newer page. Since she no longer works for the center which is a government (public) facility, can she be forced to take the page down?
Please advise. Thank you.
Louise Myers says
This sounds like a legal issue. Perhaps you need to consult a lawyer. It’s definitely not something I’m gonna tackle.

Hello Louise Myers,
i have recently contacted Facebook support for an issue with page ownership. And have communicated with few emails. I have requested for transfer of ownership of the page as the ownership is with one of the Business Manager. And i do not know who the business manager is. So in this regard Facebook has asked me to provide Government ID, Business Certificate and letter of request. I have followed up with the due process.
The question is whether there is a risk of losing my page in any way in this process. And if it can be correctly done what is the process they will follow and how will it be done.
Since i have provided the required details and documents, is there any risk associated? Have been getting mails from case++[numbers]@support.facebook.com
is it authentic??
Louise Myers says
There isn’t a “business manager” of the page as in a person, “business manager” is simply an interface to manage the page.
The email appears to be authentic as long as you’ve confirmed that’s the actual address it’s coming from by looking at the email headers.

Hello!! I recently won a slander case against an individual AND his business. I’m trying to acquire his Facebook page(s) as part of the garnishment because he has nothing else but a platform to spew lies. The court gave the attorneys 10 days to figure out if the accounts are owned by Facebook or by the individual that lost the case. The business page is not a community page. Will I be able to take ownership?
Louise Myers says
If he transfers ownership to you. If he doesn’t, your attorneys will have to figure it out.

Hi Louise, Great article!
I am also having an issue with my FB biz page and wondering if you can direct me to a solution. My company is the business owner of the account and after trying to set up a shop, i recieved a message that there is already an existing shop but I cannot access it because I am not the owner of the business page. I have no idea of where or ven how to begin going down this rabbit hole. I’ve tried to reach out to FB support however, their email icon is inacessible at this time. Any suggestions?
Louise Myers says
Are you an admin in the FB Business Manager? That’s where I’d start.
Michele says
Hi, I’m hoping you can help me. Your article was helpful though I’m not sure it’s quite what I need. I created a page for the company I used to work for and that company was recently acquired. When I go to Page Roles the company is listed as the “Page Owner” and it shows an ID #. I am listed as the admin., along with a few others from the new company, and I would assume I’m the page owner as well as I am the one that created the page.
I need to transfer ownership of the page to the “New Company” in which I have been given what the ID# is. Though the page name would still remain the same, as they have multiple other businesses with different names, they just need ownership of the page. Also they do not want to remove permanently from the page, they still want me to have access as an editor.
I currently have access to my FB business manager account, but I have not currently set it up at this time.
Can you please advise me how to change this over properly? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Louise Myers says
“the company is listed as the “Page Owner” and it shows an ID #”
That should be the ID number of your company’s Business Manager, and you will need to access it. I think you can just follow the instructions in the article. Have you tried it?
Rob says
Thank you for this article. I work for a company and have admin access to our FB page. However, the owner of the page/person that created the Facebook account is no longer with the company. I know the email address that the account was created with but, when I try to reset the password, I’m required to upload a government ID. What do you recommend I do?
Louise Myers says
An ID of the person who created the page? Sorry, I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, why you want to change the PW, or even if I can help. FB is pretty complicated!
Bonita Dancer says
Hi, Im wondering if someone can advise me. I have agency access to a page on the actual brand Facebook page (full admin rights granted by an ex employee that left the company) and then I have been given full permissions via Business Manager but I need to take actual ownership of the page and remove the previous owner then add myself. The owner of the page is unknown. I have an Facebook ID – when I type in Facebook.com/(ID number) it takes me to the page I am an admin on. I have watched a video that claims one can remove the owner from the Facebook page via Business Manager: facebook.com/watch/?v=1558379397650100. I am however petrified that if I do this, I lose access to the page and because the owner is unknown I would not even begin to know who to ask to add me back. Hope this makes sense. Thanks!
Louise Myers says
As far as I can tell, that video is just showing how to remove the page from the Business Manager. Watch again – I see no evidence that the owner was removed, just the page.
It even says “that page is no longer here.”
I hope we get an answer on how to resolve the missing owner dilemma, but it’s unlikely that an admin can easily remove an owner. That would cause a whole host of other problems.
Sarah says
I’m wondering if anyone has any advice. I am an admin on a facebook page for a nonprofit. The person who created the page and is the page owner is no longer part of the organization. I have since created an instagram account for the nonprofit and am unable to link Facebook to Instagram because I don’t have access to the page owner. Does anyone know how to fix this? Should I just make a new page and merge the two facebook pages?
Louise Myers says
Let me know if you do the merge. I’m curious why FB would allow this if you’re not the owner of one of the pages, but I don’t see anything saying you can’t. Perhaps you’ve found a good solution!
adr ien says
Hi,
I’m having a hard time to find a official statement about page ownership.
In february 2020 i created a facebook page fro a political group for mayor election (small town in France).
My question is pretty simple, but still i can’t find a clear answer :
Who’s the owner of the facebook page ?
1 – Me as the creator and since the administrator ?
2 – The political group the page has been created for ?
Note that i don’t have the “page owner” section in the page role settings.
Thank you !
Louise Myers says
My understanding is that the person who created the page is the “owner” as far as FB is concerned. It’s tied to their FB personal profile. This has caused a lot of problems for companies down the road, so perhaps they’re changing things. Or maybe you created a different sort of page than a “business page” since you don’t see the owner in the settings. I’ll try to find out more.
If you weren’t asked for verification of the political group though (some sort of documents) then I don’t see how they could be considered the owner.
adr ien says
Ok thank for your answer, for information, the page is labelled as “community” so i think it could be the reason why i don’t see the owner section.
Louise Myers says
Yep, that’s it.
adr ien says
Does it change anything about the ownership ? Or am i still the owner since i created it and i’m still the first admin ever on this page ?
Louise Myers says
Community pages don’t have an owner. I haven’t kept up with them, but supposedly they’re owned “by the community.” I remember there’s been some controversy about them because Facebook itself can take control of them.
This probably isn’t the type of page you wanted to create but I don’t know that you can change it after the fact.
adr ien says
Thank you for the informations !
So i understand the fact that there is no offcial “owner” of the page, therefore, do you think that the creator that has been the only administrator since the creation of the facebook page has the right to close it ?
Thank you
Louise Myers says
I can’t say whether you have the “right” to, but if you have the ability and desire to, then it’s your choice.
adr ien says
Ok, thank you very much

Hi. There was an unknown person, who has become the owner of my page. He said he wants to run some advertisement and then asked me to follow some steps and ultimately became page owner. I’m still admin, but how do I claim my ownership back. Please guide. It took me 6-7 months to reach 9k page likes. Please guide
Louise Myers says
Unfortunately the owner of a page is in control of ownership. The only thing I can suggest is to contact Facebook business support.
KC says
I tried to move the page owner. It currently is just an ID number and the name of the associated instagram page. When I added the number on to the business manager page, it said, “There aren’t any ad accounts that match the ID that you entered. Check that you’ve entered the ad account ID correctly and try again.” Help!
Louise Myers says
Is there a FB profile associated with the IG account that’s connected to the FB page? It sounds like you need to have a FB profile “owning” the FB page before you can change the owner. I’ve actually not heard of a situation where there isn’t one, so this is new to me.
Samantha says
KC, this is how my client’s issue is displaying as well. Thank you Louise for helping us out.
I am trying to change the Owning Business Manager of a Page, but I don’t have access to the existing Owner’s profile. Nobody actually knows who the owner is, but we do have multiple other active admins on the Page. Currently the owner is listed as an ID number, and the business name (not sure if this is pulling from Instagram). We have submitted a request for “page access,” but cannot verify the pending request, similar to others in this thread.
Other sources (Facebook help pages) indicate that requests for access can be accepted by page admins ONLY IF there is NOT an owning Business Manager. Which unfortunately in this case, there seems to be.
This ownership transfer is being done for the purpose of setting up a Facebook Shop. I’m not able to select the correct Business Manager Account while setting up the shop, because I am “not an admin.” As I mentioned, I am in fact an Admin, but not the Owner, which I suspect may be the issue.
I’m hoping that this information somehow helps us all find a breakthrough in this Ownership transfer issue? If not, do you have any suggestions for how I might set up a Facebook Shop without access to the Owner’s profile? Any leads or suggestions are so appreciated.
Louise Myers says
Since you have an ID number, this may help:
If you have someone’s ID number and want to map it to a profile, you can go to http://www.facebook.com/[id-number], replacing “id-number” with the person’s Facebook ID.
It’s possible there’s only a number because the person has closed their FB account, in which case FB should surely give you access.
Please let me know how it works out!
Katie D says
Did you happen to figure this out? We are having the same problem. The page owner is listed as the Business Name, and we have no idea whose account that is (it is NOT the original page creator’s account, we’ve tried that).
When I follow the URL with the ID number, I get a “This content isn’t available right now” message. I am so lost.
Kristina says
The problem is that the page owner is not a profile/person. It is a Business Manager which has its own admins. FB won’t tell you who the admins are though. But they manage the ownership of the page as well as other business assets like the ad account, commerce account, etc. It’s such a nightmare trying to get this sorted out.
Kristina says
I’m having the exact same issue. I’m the admin of a page, along with 3 other employees but none of us have access to Business Manager. I’ve started a dispute process with FB but they’re wanting invoice info from the ad account (which is accessed through Business Manager, the thing that I can’t get into). Since this articles says, Page Owner is page admin, then is it even possible for someone to be an admin in Business Manager, without being a page admin?
Louise Myers says
I’ve never heard of this but will try to get more info. I suppose they could have removed themself as Page admin. Was there another Page admin in the past?
arthur anderson says
I don’t see how to find Business Manager. There is nothing labeled Business Manager where is that buried. Why do FB users have to go through 3, 4 , 5 layers of menus to find anything.
Louise Myers says
I agree that it’s insanely confusing. If you can’t find it you probably haven’t set up Business Manager. And you don’t have to! You’d only want to if you have more than 1 page, or an Instagram biz account, so you can manage them together.
arthur anderson says
Thank you Louise for getting back. I want to take ownership of a page, but the current owner is having problems transferring ownership, it doesn’t take, she is still owner after adding me as admin and removing herself. Your article says I need to create a Business Manager account in order to take ownership of page, but I don’t know how to create a Business Manager account. Do I do this on the FB page or in my personal FB account? And how?
Louise Myers says
Just adding you as an admin won’t let her remove herself as owner. She needs to set you (or someone!) up as an owner first. Let me see if I can figure out how to do that without a Business Manager account, or how to create a Business Manager account when you don’t have multiple pages.
Louise Myers says
Here you go. There’s a blue button in the upper right.

Joseph Tripp says
Louise,
We have a similar problem to what I’ve seen posted here prior. We have a former employee who changed ownership of one of our pages to his business. He is not cooperative in changing it back, even though he has no interest or involvement in our business. I have tried to find help on this through Facebook and also tried to get support – so far to no avail. What am I missing?
Louise Myers says
It’s really a mess, isn’t it? Small business owners should be warned about this before they let someone set up a FB page for them.
I don’t think there’s anything you can do to get it back short of “making it worth his while” in some way. The page owner “owns” what happens to the page, which makes sense in most cases but unfortunately there’s no way to appeal (that I’m aware of) in cases like this.
Richard says
Hi Louise,
Here’s an odd one for you…
I was struggling to join any group as a page. There is never a Join+ option that should be there with a dropdown of how I want to join (and yes the groups I am looking at definitely accept pages to join). So why do I ask this here. Well, I think that it is likely related to a Page Ownership issue and this is where it gets odd.
Whenever I create a page I go to Page>Settings>Page Roles to check ownership but there are only two sections, just “Assign a new Page role” and “Existing Page roles” of which I my profile is Admin.
I cannot see anything anywhere in reference to Page Owner.
I’ve tried creating new pages, tried different browsers, PC’s, tablets, it’s missing on all of them.
So my challenge to you is to work out why is the Page Owner section within Page Roles missing on any page I create, can I find it elsewhere and how I can get it back (or how I can contact FB directly to investigate this, there is nothing on there prewritten “help centre” I can find and I’m going crazy trying to work this one out!) Thanks.
Louise Myers says
That is super strange. I’ve never heard of this before and wouldn’t know where to begin to figure this out.
Leslie says
If you transfer ownership of a Facebook page you created, is it still linked to your personal profile or does the link transfer to the new owner? Thank you.
Louise Myers says
Once you’ve gone thru all the steps to remove yourself as owner and admin, it should no longer be linked to you.
Leslie says
Great. Thank you!
Gaby Schneider says
Hi there,
My husband has a facebook business page that was created by someone else who he no longer employs. This persons business is listed as the page owner. My husband is listed as Admin. How do we remove her as the page owner and change page owner to my husband.
Thanking you in advance.
Kind Regards
Louise Myers says
The owner controls the page, so you would have to get them to follow the steps in the article under “How to change or transfer the page owner on Facebook.”
MeaghanM says
Hey! I am an admin of a Facebook business page for a credit union. The “page owner” is a dummy account that was created 14 years ago when the business page was launched. We’ve lost access to the account, and when we attempt to login it forces us to verify it. Problem is, prior staff placed the credit union’s name as the name on the account… and there is no piece of identification to verify it. Any recommendations? I have not been able to get a reply from Facebook support in over three months. We’d really like to transfer the ownership to an actual employee.
Louise Myers says
Sorry, I don’t know how to help. Unfortunately fake personal profiles, or ones in the name of a business, break FB’s ToS so FB may have shut it down.
Silverhawk says
I have a Business and am the owner of a page. I don’t have the account anymore. I don’t see a way to transfer ownership. In your article, it sounds like I would have to transfer the Business to the new owner. I don’t want to do that because I have other accounts. What would happen if I remove my ownership?
Louise Myers says
I’m not sure what you mean by “I don’t have the account anymore” and “I have other accounts.” I can tell you that only a personal profile can own or admin a business page, and it breaks FB ToS to have more than one personal profile.
Emily says
Hi I created 2 pages for my Bike Club under my personal account. I would like to transfer the pages so that they are not attached to any one’s personal account. How do i do this ? Iam the owner and admin.
Louise Myers says
Pages have to be attached to a personal account. You can’t own or admin a page without it.
Emily says
Can I create a Business Facebook account for my Bike Club and transfer pages to that account? If so how do I do this?
Currently there are 3 admins. If I remove myself as admin. will the pages still be attached to my personal account since I Created/am owner? If not then who will own the pages?
Louise Myers says
1. I can’t answer bc I don’t understand your terminology. There’s no such thing as “a Business Facebook account,” just Facebook business pages.
2. Read the section again on removing and transferring ownership. It’s rather complicated, but it’s all there.
Francesco Magnani says
Hello, I’m desperately trying to figure how to do this: my fb page has been created years ago, from an older profile, now deleted. Though, that old profile is still the owner of the page. I’m just admin and cannot remove that… any thoughts or suggestion? Many thanks in advance, Francesco
Louise Myers says
Only the owner of the page can change owners, otherwise they could get booted out on the whim of an admin. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for your situation.
Suzie says
I’m really struggling to find the answer to this; if I have a Facebook profile with connected friends and posts, can I create a page off this profile in my pen name and communicate to everyone via the page? And also without others who see the page knowing who the fb profile person is? Or should I set up a new profile in my pen name with/without a page on this? I’m unsure of the relationship and visibility between a fb profile and fb page. Grateful for any help, thank you
Louise Myers says
I am fairly certain that you don’t need to reveal yourself as the owner or admin of a FB page. You might check with other authors.
A heads up though, you won’t be able to “communicate to everyone via the page” – only with people who follow the page, and very few are likely to see your posts, unfortunately.
What I am certain of is that you’re not allowed to open another profile:
“People on Facebook are required to use the name they go by in everyday life and must not maintain multiple accounts. Operating fake accounts, pretending to be someone else, or otherwise misrepresenting your authentic identity is not allowed, and we will act on violating accounts.”
Julie says
Louise – someone has created a Facebook page for my father which includes his address and phone number. My father passed away and I want his personal information removed. Is that possible?
Louise Myers says
I’m sorry for your loss, and this predicament as well.
I believe I have read that a family member can claim the FB page of a deceased family member. I’m sure there’s proof required so you’ll have to do some digging to find out how.
This may also vary depending on whether you mean a business page or personal profile.
If that’s a dead end you may need to go the route of reporting stolen identity on FB.
Hope this helps, I don’t have details as this isn’t my purview. Good luck.
Julie says
Hi Louise, thank you for the article. I just have a question. I am the owner of the page and the admin. However, when I claimed the page was with the original name A, and later on, I decided to change the page’s name to have a more targeted audience to name B, Facebook authorized it. Unfortunately, when I wanted to add the name B to the Business Manager it tells me that the owner is name A, so when you need to authorize it on Facebook page name B does not appear as the owner, It appears the name A (so FB did not change the name in there) there is no button to click to authorize Business Manager addition in the Page role section of the page. I followed the instructions in your article, however, I cannot change the owner of the page because there is no remove button.
I hope I explained my self. Do you have any suggestion to this? Thank you very much.
Louise Myers says
Hi Julie. The only info I know is under the section “Business manager settings.” This should allow you to add the (changed) Page name to the Business Manager. Or you could try adding your personal profile name there.
It’s also possible that it takes some time to simply update to your change. Have you tried clearing your browser cache?
I hope these help, because it’s all I know. Best of luck!
Jan says
Hello Louise! Thanks for the guide although I didn’t find answer. Maybe this will help others. I have Business Manager with added Page, so ownership moved from founder to this Business Manager. Now I need to move this page from my Business Manager to another Business Manager, but you can’t do that directly. What I understood so far you need to remove Page from BM1 and then add it to BM2 – that’s clear. But who becomes new owner of Page when you remove it from BM1? Then this owner can be added to BM2 and he/she can add that page instantly to new BM. Thanks!
Louise Myers says
Sorry – I’m not sure if you’re asking me or telling me something to help others. If it’s a question, I believe it’s answered in the article:
“They can then go into the Business Manager and add themselves as the Page owner.”
Feel free to explain further if I’ve missed your point!
Mary Spicer says
ok, here goes….
Facebook profile created, inappropriately as a business (let’s call it Shoe Store – as in first name shoe…)
Shoe Store creates a PROPER page, Shoes for Everyone, Ottawa
Shoe Store made a gmail account to manage this, and other social media.
Shoe is not a real person. The party who created it did so in error, and left the company a ong time ago. We have all of the log ins required.
We have added me, Mary, as admin. We tried, but cannot remove Shoe from the Shoes For Everyone Page.
We would like to:
convert Shoe Store to a page, then merge it with Shoes for Everyone (which has a good following so don’t want to lose that.
Is there a risk involved with Shoe Store disappearing after the conversion and merge?
Louise Myers says
I’m not even sure what your question means, but there’s always a risk with anything like this on social media. You may or may not even be able to merge the 2 pages. Unfortunately I can’t advise you on what to do but I wish you luck.
Lily Wardale says
Hi,
Sorry, this may sound complicated…
I’ve just joined a business and recently taken over the social media/marketing aspects.
In basic terms, I want to remove or change the owner of the page.
The owner of the page also has a business manager account. However, the business does not know who created the account or have access to it. So when we try to add the page to the business account it says we have to wait for authorisation (from the original creator). However, we can’t do this as no one knows the details. Is there a way to remove the owner of the page?
Louise Myers says
No, it’s not possible to remove a page owner.
Ana Luck says
I currently have a biz page since 2012, for some reason my personal profile is not listed as the owner therefore I am not able to link it to my facebook portal. I have tried to make myself an admin but myself does not show up by name or email. I tried switching to the old fb as well. Hope you can help
Louise Myers says
Who is listed as owner or admin? I think the only thing you can do is to contact them. If there’s no owner or admin then I don’t see any way to recover the page.
Has FB taken it as a Community page? How long has it been since you’ve used it?
Kelsey says
Really great article! I have a question, can their be 2 page owner? I’m still confused in this part. Thanks alot.
Louise Myers says
You can add page roles like Admin but you can’t add owners. The article outlines how to remove yourself as owner so another person can claim ownership.

[name] facebook page was stolen along with a picture of her driving license. They are asking for people info to get $600. She’s locked out. Please delete her page. She has a picture of her and her mother standing up smiling. If there is a way to keep a copy of what is in her previous pages, please save them. Tomorrow is her mother’s birthday. Her mother passed away 27 years ago. Thank you for your help! I’m her Aunt and Godmother.
Louise Myers says
Sorry, I have no way to help. She could try reporting this directly to FB.
Jonathan says
Hi Louise,
To delete a page from FB, do you delete it in the FB page itself or you also can delete the page in the FB Business account?
Louise Myers says
If you no longer want to manage a Page from your Business Manager, you can remove it. This doesn’t delete the Page though.
Jim says
Great article, thank you. If you work for a big, established company, but no one knows who the page owner is, how do you find out? Where is that information stored? Thanks!
Louise Myers says
You should be able to find it in the Page Transparency section, as mentioned in the article.
Sammie says
Hi Louisem, my friend helped us to manage account before and he left the business. We recently found the page ownership is under his name. I was the creator of the page. The page was created from my personal account. Yesterday, he transferred the page from his business manager to our new business manager (he is not the admin under new business manager account). He thought after doing business manager transferred I am already the owner of the page since I need to use my personal account to login my business manager and now the page is belonged to the new business manager. But from the notification it had a history of he claimed his ownership from the page before he transferred the page from the business manager he owned to the business manager I own. It also shows that the page now is transferred to new business manager. Then there is no further info. Does this mean even though he is not the owner or business manager admin of new business manager but he is still the owner of the page? From your article, does he need to leave the page and the page will have no ownership then my personal account as a page admin can claim it? We are worried that we are doing the wrong thing and the page become inaccessible. Sorry it is a bit complicated. Thank you. Look forward your answer.
Louise Myers says
Unfortunately I can’t advise you on this. I hope you sort it out.

I am trying to use HootSuite and my page doesn’t show at all. Though I am the admin of the page. Is there any possibility that my ownership is somehow taken by FB?
Is there any different b/w Page Owner and Admin?
Louise Myers says
Years ago I’d heard that pages classified as “community” could be taken by FB. Don’t know if this is the case. Your best bet is to ask HootSuite though.

Sorry i creat page for my business and i am admin but forgot or didnot made page owner i add admin from advertising agency to take role of manage my page he make page owner by advertising agency name ? When i go to make page owner i didnot find it in feature is ther any way to secure my page and protect it in future if we will break with that agency off ?
Louise Myers says
Sorry, I don’t know the answer. If you can change the admin level, I’d do that right away.
Elave says
So if i change the admine he must also change the page owner also is that right ?

I notice this feature doesn’t work anymore. (I found your blog post while trying to trouble shoot the issue.) I can’t find a single Facebook page that displays a featured page owner. This is a bummer.
Louise Myers says
Thanks for the heads up! I was still able to find it on my page, but apparently no one else can see it now. Weird!
