Wondering how often to post on social media?
The short answer is, “As often as you can consistently post quality content.”
Quality and consistency are key to social media success.
This has not changed for 2024, and I don’t expect it to ever change!
But you want more… you want tips and suggestions! A place to start.
We got it.
How Often to Post on Social Media
Your business should post to most social platforms once or twice a day, on the days your followers are active.
Post only your best content that resonates with your audience. If too many posts fall flat, the platform will throttle the reach of all your content.
The one exception is X.
So here’s how to maximize your one or two daily posts: test all your content ideas on X first!
Tweet out your stats, tips, and links as text and see which get the highest engagement.
Then turn the best posts into short-form videos or graphics for your other social media accounts.
This marketer tried it and tripled his impressions on every platform… except Facebook Pages. Those are the toughest to get any engagement at all!
Now get the data-backed details on:
- How often to post on Facebook Pages and groups
- How often to post on TikTok
- How often to tweet on X (formerly Twitter)
- How often to pin on Pinterest
- How often to post on Instagram
- How often to post on LinkedIn
- How often to upload to YouTube
You’ll find everything summed up on a colorful infographic at the end.
Don’t try to max out every platform – unless you have unlimited time or funds. Or use a magical scheduling tool, like Missinglettr, mentioned below (my secret weapon!).

How Often to Post on Facebook 2024
Most studies agree that when posting to Facebook Pages, once per day is optimal, with a maximum of two posts per day.
Hubspot found that pages under 10,000 fans experienced a 50% drop in engagement per post if they posted more than once per day.
At a minimum, you should post to your Facebook Pages 3 times per week.
For engaging, viral content scheduled in a snap, you should try PromoRepublic. You can edit and add your branding to their clever, pre-made content – or just post it as-is!
PromoRepublic also schedules to Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, but the content is most needed on a platform like Facebook, where users are looking to connect and have fun.

How often should you update your Facebook Page?
Bare minimum: once a week. Better: 3 times a week. Optimal: once a day.
Avoid: Sharing a bunch of posts in quick succession. Allow at least 3 hours between posts. “Too many updates” is the #1 reason people unfollow Fan Pages.
Action points:
1 | Get some Facebook content ideas and plan a week or month’s worth of posts.
2 | Discover the best time to post on Facebook 2024.
3 | Schedule your Facebook posts for free.
4 | Or find ready-made content and schedule it in PromoRepublic.
How Often to Post in Facebook Groups
The recommendations for posting to a Facebook group are quite similar to a Facebook Page.
It’s best to post at least 2-3 times a week, with daily posts being optimal. The maximum is around twice a day.
Build up gradually and check your stats. Make sure your engagement stays high! If people start ignoring or hiding your posts, that’s worse for your reach than posting less frequently.
Post a variety of content that you know your members are interested in:
- Link posts.
- Niche related news.
- Facebook Live Q & As.
- Content designed for Facebook engagement.
- Promotional content like sales.
- Milestones and thank you’s.
Remember to respond to members and not just talk at them! It’s a tall order.
How Often to Post on TikTok 2024
The optimal frequency to post on TikTok is 1 to 4 times per day. This is often enough to try different types of content to see how they work.
TikTok themselves came out with that recommendation, which agrees with what successful TikTokers say is working for them.
Publish at least one quality video per day. Most users have found that 3 per day is optimal.
Be consistent, and choose a number you find manageable. It’s better to post once a day, every day, than 7 times in one day and nothing for a week.
Also, posts have a lifespan of around two days on the For You page, so regular fresh content improves your chances of being seen.
Here are a bunch of TikTok video ideas to keep you creating.
So, how often should you post to TikTok?
Bare minimum: several times a week to once a day.
Optimal: 3 times per day.

2 | To increase your chances of going viral, be sure to add the best hashtags for TikTok and the best TikTok captions.
3 | Learn the best time to post on TikTok 2024.
How Often to Post on X (Twitter) 2024
The general consensus is to post on X 3 to 30 times a day. Tweets have an incredibly short shelf life, so it’s important to spread your tweets through the day.
The studies do vary wildly – anywhere from once per day to 51 times a day!
But don’t blast out junk just to remain active. Do use X as a testing ground for content ideas you want to maximize on your other social channels.

How often should you Tweet?
Bare minimum: once a day. Better: 3 – 6 tweets a day. Optimal: 15-23 tweets a day.
Dan Zarella found that the most-followed Twitter accounts averaged 23 tweets a day, with no decline in followers as tweet counts rose.
Avoid: Disappearing from Twitter for weeks or months – you’ll lose followers.
Action points:
1 | Learn the right image size for tweets.
2 | Discover the best time to tweet.
3 | Try Missinglettr to schedule new blog posts to tweet out on different days and times for a whole year. The Twitter feed moves so quickly, you’ll be lucky if your followers see it once, let alone multiple times!
How Often to Post on Instagram 2024
You should to post on Instagram at least once per day, and no more than 3 times per day.
Mix up Instagram content types!
If you post 3x per day, 2 of those should be Stories, per Adam Mosseri.
At the very least, you should publish one Instagram post every week.
You can use approved partners for Instagram scheduling to auto-post for you safely!
How often should you update your Instagram?

2 | Consider the best Instagram image sizes.

How Often to Post on YouTube 2024
Consistency is key to how often to post on YouTube. You should aim to upload a new YouTube video once per week.
If you create a stash of videos before uploading, you’ll get an idea of how long your video creation will take, and if that’s a realistic goal.
Don’t abandon YouTube because you can’t post weekly, and don’t post junky videos just to get something uploaded.
It may sound like a broken record, but it’s really all about consistency, quality, and what works for your audience.
According to Filmora, you’ll grow your channel faster if you:
- Create a specific YouTube posting schedule.
- Post your upload schedule on your YouTube account.
- Don’t overcommit! Creating YouTube videos takes time.
- “Bank” YouTube videos so you have them ready to upload on your schedule.
Here are some fantastic tips on posting frequency from Business Film Booth.
I jumped you right to that part of the video, but the whole thing contains important advice.
How often you should post a video to YouTube depends on a whole heap of things. There is not a set answer. This video will talk you through everything you need to consider before you produce one video a week, day or month.
Action points:
1 | If you haven’t yet, create awesome YouTube channel art.
2 | Bank a stash of videos. Here are some great YouTube content ideas to get you cranking.
3 | Be sure to create compelling YouTube thumbnails for each video.
4 | Discover the best time to upload to YouTube.
How Often Should You Blog?
Some quick thoughts here, since blogging is sometimes lumped in with “social media.”
Bare minimum: once a month. Once weekly is ideal, and if you can post two or three times a week – even better.
If you’re new to blogging, more content will definitely move you up in the search rankings. Established blogs with plenty of content should focus less on how much new content they can create, and more on updating and optimizing their current content.
Avoid: Posting low quality content to meet a “quota.” Publishing a ton of blog posts when you have time to write, and none when you get busy. Consistency will help the search engines – and your readers! – know what to expect. But be sure it’s quality.
Action points:
1 | Choose a comfortable frequency you know you can keep up with.
2 | Learn some SEO basics for beginners.
3 | Start writing, and get a few posts scheduled in advance.
4 | When – and if – you can, increase your posting frequency.
5 | Once you have a library of content, be sure to keep it updated.

I’m Sorry But This Might Sound Like A Dumb Question But What Do You Mean By
Posting 3/week On Facebook,LinkedIn Like do u post Monday Tuesday Wednesday Then Repeat For Next week Or Post 3 Times In One Day Then Repeat For Next Week?
Louise Myers says
I would space the posts out as much as you can, depending on when your audience is online. Definitely not 3x one day and nothing for 6 days.
Alisa C says
Hi Louise, thanks for all you do to help us succeed with social media. Question: Is it bad to post 7 days a week? Should we post on Sundays? In this article, you talk about frequency but not when. Thanks for weighing in!
Louise Myers says
It’s GOOD to post 7 days if you can! As long as your audience is responding, you’re golden. You might also want to check this article on best times to post to social media. For example, you probably won’t get much response on LinkedIn on weekends.
Anon says
You said that we can post 25 times per day on Pinterest. I started my website a few months ago and I post on Pinterest using the “Save From Web” option. I try to did it more than 5 times a day and my Pinterest account got blocked as they considered it a spam.
Louise Myers says
You do need to ramp up to that kind of frequency. With a site that new, I also wonder if you were repeating the same URL links often – another red flag.
You might want to catch up on the current Pinterest best practices.
PNWPhotoWalks says
Hi Louise,
I’ve always found your resources to be excellent!
Q: Do you plan to post recommended dimensions for profile and banner images for Flickr at a future date?
I’m increasingly finding that folks I know are moving away from the Meta platforms you reference because of data and/or privacy concerns. Fortunately, Flickr is (still) one of the few social platforms that don’t harvest/sell your data to brokers.
Thanks, Mark
Louise Myers says
Great suggestion. Are you having any particular issues with them? I don’t use Flickr myself so your input would be helpful.
PNWPhotoWalks says
RE: “Are you having any particular issues with them?”
I apologize for my late reply. I think there was a misunderstanding. I’m not having any issues with Flickr or their parent company SmugMug. My issues (data/privacy) were with Meta’s platforms, specifically Facebook and Instagram.
Louise Myers says
I’m quite surprised to hear Meta does that. I think what I meant, though, was whether you have problems with the sizing for Flickr.

Leann says
Hi Louise,
Thank you so much for your article, i’ve found it very helpful.
Could you clear something up for me though between instagram posts and instagram stories. It’s not specified in your article, but i’m presuming it is based on posts and not stories. If i post say 3 slides on stories per day, does instagram pick that up as i’m being consistent, or does it have to be posts, or does it have to be both stories and posts.
Should we alternate perhaps, so 3 slides one day, the next day 3 posts, etc?
And then with LinkedIn, there is a personal page and a business page, and both can be posted on. Do we post on both of them 2 x a week, and the same content on both, or leave the personal one and post on business one or post on the personal one advising to head on over to the business one to “view more” of the post?
Thank you so much!
Louise Myers says
Hi Leann,
Re IG, I would try to post a story AND a post at least daily. It’s not that IG is watching to see if you’re consistent – it’s that you want to stay in front of your followers.
I’m not much of a LI user so I don’t really know. I would think there should be some differentiation between what you’d post on a personal vs business. If it’s a micro business (one person, or centered on one person), then maybe you don’t need both pages? Check with a LI expert 🙂
Edmund Lawrence says

This is really helpful Louise. It’s helped to answer my own thoughts about how often to post – but also I’m trying to put social media marketing packages together for my website so I like your graded low, medium, high method. Knowing how many times to post is still a bit of a mystery for so many of us – it’s certainly not an exact science.
Louise Myers says
I’m so glad it helped! And that’s a brilliant idea for packaging your services.
Adrian Dahlin says
Re: the HubSpot article, shouldn’t we look at total engagements per time period, not just engagements per post? HubSpot’s focus on engagements per post would suggest that the optimal rate for pages under 10,000 fans is 1-5 times per month. But what really matters for exposure and click-throughs is total engagement. So the right metric would be posts per month multiplied by the average engagements per post.
Let’s look at this using HubSpot’s graph and focus on accounts between 1,001 and 10,000. The first category has an average of 3 posts per month and 100 engagements per post, for 300 engagements per month on average. The second category averages around 10 posts per month and 95 clicks per post, for 950 engagements per month. The third category averages around 23 posts per month and 80 engagements per post, for 1,840 clicks per month. The fourth category averages around 45 posts per month and 55 clicks per post, for 2,475 clicks per month. The final category averages who knows how many posts per day, let’s say 75, and around 35 clicks per post, for 2,625 clicks per month.
So if you’re optimizing for the number of total clicks, which is probably the metric most directly tied to sales or whatever your goals are, you actually do want more posts. There are diminishing returns after the 31-60-per-month category, so maybe you stay below 60/month to avoid the downsides of over-communicating and losing followers. Does anyone disagree?
Louise Myers says
The suggestion here does advocate no more than 60 posts per month.
While I agree that more posts should equal more clicks, I suspect FB will only show so many posts from your page. And at some point you’ll have people ignoring, hiding, or unfollowing.
So I definitely agree that we want to “avoid the downsides of over-communicating and losing followers.”
1-2 posts a day seems optimal, but as with everything, each business should test and evaluate their results.
Mercedes Taylor says
Good post! I would like to get your opinion. A coworker and have differing opinions on when to create events and how many at a time. I try to strategically post them about 3-4 weeks out and not too many in a week. He wants to try a method where once every week or once every two weeks he creates all the events for the next month or so and dumps them in. I think that would come across as spamming. But what do you think?
Louise Myers says
Might be spammy, but moreso I think it’d be ineffective. If he insists (and has authority to do so) test it out! I suspect that dribbling them out will get better attendance.
Norja says
Really great article!!! Thank you!!! ❤️
Louise Myers says
You’re welcome 🙂
danielle says
This article is supposed to tell us how often to post (aka it should be saying 1/week, 3/month, etc.) and it doesnt do that at all for youtube.
All this is telling us is best times and days on YouTube (which is great), but please consider including the consistency advice, which is what this article is titled. Just to avoid confusion with others like me.
Louise Myers says
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll add some info to clarify that. However YouTube is quite different from the social networks. It’s really more about what you tell your subscribers to expect than algorithms and overwhelming the newsfeed.
Freddy Joe says
I agree with you, but it’s about the type of services you are offering that reflects how often one should do posting.
Louise Myers says
Lots of things affect how often a specific account should post. These are just guidelines.
shaun says
Hey Louise,
Thanks for the article!
We have found our facebook group is far more interactive, however, it’s very inconsistent. Do you have an ideal set of number for that? or any more great advice
Louise Myers says
I don’t have much intel on FB groups. You would certainly want to be initiating conversation, how often probably depends on how many people are in the group. With fewer members, you’ll probably have to be more proactive.
Chirp says
Very helpful! Thank you for the great insights.

Carol Henrichs says
I noticed you thanked Buffer for data but didn’t include it in the list of products. I use it and it also posts directly to Instagram. The pricing is much more affordable than Tailwind and allows more accounts. And to be frank. I really struggle to get through your blog posts because of the number of ads, many repeated in the same post. Maybe you know about social media posting, but I’m not liking the blog posts.
Louise Myers says
Hi Carol,
I have Buffer on my list of Instagram schedulers that direct post.
The reason I greatly prefer Tailwind over Buffer for Pinterest is that TW allows me to schedule to all relevant boards at once, at an interval I specify. Since Pinterest is my platform of choice, I can keep active there for a couple hours and $10 a month. Well worth it if Pinterest traffic is a key part of your marketing plan.
I appreciate your feedback about the ads. I’m trying to go through my posts 1 by 1 and adjust the amount and placement, however I have no control over repeats.
I understand that no one wants to see ads, but it’s quite a good way to earn a living.
Logan Williams says
I disagree with LinkedIn. 1/week is plenty.
Logan Williams says
Everything else in this article is awesome, though! I just don’t want to see a ton of personal stuff on LinkedIn and think it should be kept professional and only share what is actually important.

Really informative post ! Facebook’s new algorithm update reduces the organic reach, when we post too often, we can see lot’s of post not reach as we expect.

Hi, Louise. I find this so useful and I refer back to it often! I have a question about Pinterest. Is the suggested 11 pins per day the number for pinning your own pins or others’ pins? Sorry if this question seems really obvious. I’m new to Pinterest!
Louise Myers says
Hi Mayo. That would be total number of pins from yours and other websites.
Brandon Lazovic says
Nice post! It sums it nicely and I like how it shows both low and high end for posting on these various platforms.

Thanks Brandon.

Another great infographic Louise – So many ask this question not only on social but email marketing too. I have been going by what Buffer and Hubspot blogged about this, but Buffer never updated it – I asked on Twitter, but they never did. Your input here is helpful. I’ll share with my social network and use your infographic on our website (we’re updating right now).
Louise Myers says
Terrific, Susan.
Of Goats and Greens says
Any account that posts more than five times a day to any of my social media accounts will be DELETED. Deservedly so.
Of Goats and Greens says
And a business account will be given far less leeway. 2 or 3 times a week, MAX.
Louise Myers says
I think you’re saying you won’t follow a business account that posts more than 2-3 times a week. Which is fine, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend a business post that infrequently. 90+% of posts won’t be seen by any specific follower, so businesses need to post more than twice a week (depending on platform).
Shelley Iverson says
This has changed significantly in 2020. I enjoyed this article immensely, but have found that a couple well written longer posts on Facebook has gotten more engagement and reach than posting once or twice a day.
Have you experienced that recently?
Louise Myers says
Hi Shelley,
Are you saying just a couple *per week*? Very interesting if so.
I’d love to know more. I don’t see this technique on your own FB page but maybe you’re using it on others you manage?
Thanks for any details.

Do you know if creating a Facebook event counts as a page post? I have a lot of events and a ton of content, so I consistently struggle to keep below two per day.

If it posts to your page, then I’d say yes. but if your strategy is working, don’t worry about it.
Mihaela Echols says
I love the big simple chart! It’s so true if people over post on my instagram and facebook I stop following them. I clogs my feed. I like to see what other people are up to. Also if people do too many selfies I don’t follow.

Only once a day on FB? That seems really low and against the advice of most people I have read. Not sure what to do with that. I guess I’ll look up hubspot and see where they are getting that #.
Louise Myers says
I’m hearing it more and more. Jenn Herrmann was suggesting 5-7x a week about a year ago. And I recently heard a page with 100K fans say their best results are when they post only 3x a week!
I think you have to test and see what works best for your audience.

Hey Louise,
Thanks for the data and infographic!
Tell me, do these posting frequencies refer to your own content or total content including curated content? For example, one post a day on Facebook seems low if you were to post a mix of your own content and other people’s content.

Louise Myers says
Re: “Hubspot found that pages under 10,000 fans experienced a 50% drop in engagement per post if they posted more than once per day.” The study was on total posts per day.
CoSchedule recommends alternating your own content and others’.
But if posting more frequently works for you, keep doing it! Your own results are more important than averages from a bunch of pages.
